Rainbow

A rainbow lit our paddock today:
an afternoon surprise,
as there was no rain.
A glow of glory low
over struggling grasses
that strive with too little
to cover a vast droughted earth.

The rainbow touched each boundary fence
from west to east.
Intense and utterly bold, it dwelt among us.

I'm not sure at which end
it left a pot of gold,
but I am sure it did.
