how to put aphasia into words
like being a poet,
the right words just won't come,
although they're in here
out there
somewhere
words slip between synapses,
falling where forgotten names once fell
and do still, for you
what shall I say?
ABI you tell me;
I don't recall
an Abi among my acquaintances,
but maybe
she will come one day,
and we will sit
and reason together
in silence, in love,
in knowing each other
for some things
cannot be expressed
in words
About these words
In 2015 my mother became suddenly ill with herpes simplex encephalitis. Her brain was damaged, limiting her speech and understanding.
It led us into the new paths of learning about brain damage and about love.
ABI = Acquired Brain Injury
